2013: A united Australia Awards

In January 2013, a new unified brand was unveiled for the Australia Awards bringing the Australian Agency for International Development (AusAID), the Department of Industry, Innovation, Science, Research and Tertiary Education (DIISRTE) and the Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR) scholarships together under the Australia Awards program.

From 2013, the Australian Development Scholarships (ADS) will be known as the Australia Awards Scholarships (AAS) and the Australian Leadership Awards will be known as the Australia Awards Leadership Program (AALP).

The awards will continue to offer Mongolian citizens the opportunity to support the development of their country through targeted post-graduate study in Australia


38 Australian Development Scholarships (ADS) (14 males and 24 females) and 7 Australian Leadership Award Scholarships(ALAS).

(1 male and 6 females) commenced their studies at seventeen Australian institutions. Key areas of studies included Engineering, Finance and Economics, Environmental Management, Human Resource Management, Public Health, Law, Information Technology Management, and Development.

Case Studies

Four Australian Development Scholarship awardees describe their study experience in Australia and their progress since returning to their ministries in Mongolia. These include awardees working in the Ministry of Justice & Home Affairs (MOJHA) and the Ministry of Finance (MOF).

A Pre-Departure Briefing was held on 4 December 2012 for 18 intake 1 2013 Australian Development Scholarship Awardees and 3 Australia Leadership Award recipients.


English Language Training – ELT

The opening of the full-time English Language Training program for Australian Development Scholarships candidates was held on 14 January 2013 at the Puma hotel. The current English Language Training Program run by The Institute of Education and Training (IET) Mongolia is the first full-time program co-funded by the Governments of Australia and Mongolia following an independent Progress Report recommendation.
